During the Ukraine crisis, the Weimar Triangle met informally with the three Ministers Fabius, Steinmeier and Sikorski who met in Kiev on 20 February 2014 to negotiate a post-crisis solution between President Yanukovych and the opposition. An agreement was signed to end the violence and mark the beginning of the political transition. Culture: Since 2006, the Adam Mickiewicz Prize has been awarded annually by the Committee for the Promotion of French, German and Polish Cooperation to institutions or individuals who have contributed to relations between the three countries. In the audiovisual sector, cooperation was set in stone on 19 February 2014 with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Franco-German channel Arte and the Kultura channel of the Polish television channel TVP. On 5 July 2011, Poland, France and Germany signed an agreement in Brussels to consolidate a unit of 1,700 soldiers, the Weimar fighting group, which will be deployed in crisis zones from 2013. The EU economic bulletin indicates that Poland will lead the group, provide basic combat troops and a mechanized battalion, provide logistical support to Germany and provide medical support to France. The operational command centre will be based in Mont Valérien, a suburb of Paris. A triangular transaction is a chain transaction that applies a simplification rule. There may be a triangular activity in which three operators from three different Member States carry out sales transactions on the same product and which go directly from the first (first supplier) to the last (the last buyer).
At the Weimar Triangle meeting in France in 1992, Poland was approved by Germany and France to enjoy a specific association status within the Western European Union, NATO`s European arm. The UStG 25b simplification rule ensures that none of the contractors involved in the triangular process are required to obtain VAT registration. Without the application of the simplification rule, the first buyer E2 in the example above (the German trader) should obtain a vat registration in the country of arrival of the goods delivered (Poland). This would mean that it would have to file monthly VAT returns. On August 28, 2016, representatives of the three countries pledged to « revitalize » the Weimar Triangle. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said the group would meet before the end of 2016 and French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said France would host a summit in November 2016. This recovery is due to the UK`s decision to leave the European Union and the ongoing migration crisis in Europe. In April 2016, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski told the Gazeta Wyborcza daily that the Weimar Triangle had lost its relevance to his country.
Decentralised cooperation: the Eurocities network has enabled the creation of numerous European projects between the three partners of the Weimar Triangle, including INTERREG, ESPON, Leonardo and Youth in Action. Within the framework of INTERREG, there are also inter-regional cooperation within the Weimar Triangle (Hauts-de-France, North Rhine-Westphalia and Silesia); Ile-de-France, Brandenburg and Mazovia).
